Richard Hudson

Richard Hudson’s first band of note was the legendary Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera whose album of the same name is now a sought after collector’s item. After seeing EGVO perform, Dave Cousins and Tony Hooper of The Strawbs invited him along with John Ford and Rick Wakeman to join their band.

Together they recorded the albums Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios, From The Witchwood, Grave New World and Bursting at the Seams. Hud and John were also responsible for penning the Strawbs biggest hit single Part Of The Union.

Hud and John formed their own band Hudson Ford, and had chart success with Pick Up The Pieces, Burn Baby Burn, Floating In The Wind, as well as the albums Nickelodeon, Free Spirit, Did Worlds Collide and Daylight.

Hud was also a member of The Monks and responsible for their hits Nice Legs Shame About The Face, Drugs In My Pocket and the albums Bad Habits and Suspended Animation.

Then came the 30’s pastiche band High Society (I Never Go Out In The Rain, I’ve Got To Get Out Of This Rut).
